I am a Domestic Goddess! March 2, 2008

I’ve been rather busy this weekend, being all feminine and stuff. Well, mostly just today. 🙂 But still, I’ve been very domestic and wifely. And technically, the wifely stuff started pretty early this morning , too. 😉

First, Recipezaar is having its semi-annual “Freezer Tag” game, so we had to get in on that. Three times. 🙄 We choose from a HUGE list of recipes, and prepare the item, with an eye toward whether it will work for “OAMC” (Once A Month Cooking). Uh, basically, we “develop” the recipe to be frozen. I’d say we’re more than qualified, wouldn’t you?

Anyway, we have a month to prepare, freeze, and cook the following recipes:

We might be able to get in on a couple more before the game ends, huh?

Also, I’ve been sewing. Number One Niece was here a couple of weeks ago, and we went clothes shopping. (It’s my goal to be THE “cool aunt.”) We didn’t actually buy anything, but we got some ideas. And one of the (my) bright ideas was to find an appropriate pattern and some fabric. Yup, that’s what we did. And to be fair, the pattern we chose is very flattering to Number One Niece. And the fabric, well, we got a couple. Then, like an idiot, I promised to get the butterfly fabric. Because I have nothing better to do than fight with slippery fabric.  Though it is actually very pretty.

So I finally finished her blouse, which is very kimono-like, along with another, orange tie-died-style top. 🙂 Oh, and if there’s anything worse than working with the slippery, ravelly fabric, it’s the stretchy stuff.  Yikes.  But they’re done, and I’m gonna drop them in the mail this week, so she gets them before her birthday.

So, that was my morning. Then, on to the kitchen. I picked up the coolest toy last week – it’s a little mini-single-serving-blender. I love it! It comes with a sippy-top, so I can throw together my morning healthy smoothie, then just swap tops, and take the blender container to work for my breakfast.

So. . . I put together my Monday smoothie. Got a banana, plain yogurt (fat free – not that you can tell!), some OJ and about half a cup of cranberries, along with a smear of peanut butter just because I frickin love peanut butter for protein, some honey and a splash of vanilla. I also saw a couple of recipes that include some oatmeal for the, I don’t know, fiber, I guess, so I decided to toss in a quarter cup for the heck of it. If it doesn’t hurt the smoothie, well, oatmeal is good for you, and I’m firmly in my 40’s, so why not.

So, here’s what I ended up throwing into this smoothie:

Blend away!

  • 1 banana
  • 1/2 c. OJ
  • 1/2 c. (generous) non-fat yogurt — hey, you can’t tell the difference, so why not go the non-fat route?
  • 1/2 c. frozen cranberries – any fruit would probably work – fresh or frozen. I like red fruits because they make the smoothie such a nice pink color, but I’ve used blueberries, too, which make it kind of purply. 🙂
  • About a tablespoon each of peanut butter and honey because peanut butter don’t need no reason! for flavor and nutrition. I also like to put a splash of vanilla in, too. Just because.
  • And, of course, the infamous 1/4 cup of oatmeal. We’ll just see about that.

So. I’ve got my Monday smoothie ready to go, and it’s time to put together the Freezer Tag recipe for the freezer. And start dinner for tonight, too.
