Me & You Tom April 15, 2009

Thomas Paine, that is. 😀

Today is April 15. Tax Day for most. Tea Party Day for . . . how many?  Unfortunately, many parties, including Rochester’s, are being held around noontime – right smack in the middle of the work day.  😯

And, notwithstanding what we may have been told, many of us do still have jobs.  🙄

Surprisingly, any media mention outside the “right-wing wacko blogs” seems to refer to the organizers and participants of these tea parties as “tea-baggers.”

Nice, huh.  As Peeps says,

Ignore it, and it’ll go away; ridicule it, and it’ll be ignored.

So anyway.  I hardly think it’s necessary to put on a conspiracy-theory-tin-foil hat in order to see the coincidence in the timing of the recently-released, newly declassified document entitled Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment.

Have you read it yet?  Read about it, at least?

Warning ❗

Shhh.  I think the government defines me as a “right-wing extremist.”  😯

You may want to look away for a few minutes. . .

Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.

Now, I’m no constitutional law professor, but I am a thinker.  I have, in fact, read and even studied the U.S. Constitution.  And as I recall, the Founding Fathers themselves severely limited federal authority “in favor of state and local authority” and even, dare I say it, personal freedom. Remember the 9th and 10th amendments?

Yeah, I’m kind of in favor of smaller federal government and more personal responsibility.  And liberty.  I like liberty and freedom.  I’m kinda extreme like that, I guess.  🙄

And forget about the fat lady – it ain’t over ’till someone’s a racist.

Most statements by rightwing extremists have been rhetorical,
expressing concerns about the election of the first African American president, but stopping short of calls for violent action.

Seriously?  Does anyone really care about “the first African-American president?”  Really?  I, and most people I know, are far more concerned about the “first socialist president.”

I would even go so far as to say “some of my best friends are. . . ” but that might sound kind of, you know, racist.  😯

Then, of course, there’s the “gun nut” angle:

Proposed imposition of firearms restrictions and weapons bans likely would attract new members into the ranks of rightwing  extremist groups, as well as potentially spur some of them to begin planning and training for violence against the government. The high volume of purchases and stockpiling of weapons and ammunition by rightwing extremists in anticipation of restrictions and bans in some parts of the country continue to be a primary concern to law enforcement.

Rightwing extremist groups?  You mean like the NRA?  Or hey, how about the Second Amendment Sisters?

See, here’s the thing about the “right-wing extremists” – it’s not the specific issues that are pissing us off.  It’s not even just the Obama administration – that’s merely a symptom of the underlying problem.

It’s the loss of one liberty – one freedom – after another.  It’s about an untouchable federal government running our lives – representatives who don’t represent us.  Our rights – and our dollars – are being stripped from us bit by bit, and it seems that there’s nothing we can do about it.

So I guess I can live with being a “right-wing extremist” – I’m in good company.

It’s me & you, Thomas Paine and George Washington and Thomas Jefferson and James Madison and . . .

Thanks, Melinda. We’re always glad to have you stop by. 🙂

BTW, I’ve tried commenting on your blog a couple of times, and it won’t let me. . . what’s up with that? 😕

Amen, Sistah, amen! You’re in good company, extremist-wise. I would have gone to a tea party tonight, but I didn’t finish work in time. And besides, I don’t want to end up on no stinkin’ list!!

Toy Lady - April 15, 2009

You’re absolutely right, Anne – the last thing we need, at this point, is to end up on some kind of watch list! 😯

I’d rather just wait and throw my hat into the ring when I absolutely need to – until then, what “they” don’t know won’t hurt me, right? 😉
