Let’s go to the mall…. today March 26, 2010

Posted by Peeps in Home, Musings, random stuff.

Sorry. I had to.

So, at Christmas time, Toys’s boss gave her a gift card as a bonus.  Not a regular gift card, that would work anywhere.  Like liquor stores or the gun shop.  No, that would be too easy.  This one only works at area malls.

Now, I’m from New Jersey.  Land of malls.  Malls are places I try to avoid at all costs.  They tend to be painful.  And they get worse the older I get.  But we needed a few things for the house, and both of us are willing to put up with some discomfort to spend essentially free money.

We went in the middle of the week, obviously because it’s less crowded.  Once Toys got home, off we went.  Our first stop was Sear’s.

We really need a new range hood.  Since we’ve started replacing all the appliances, it’s the only thing left that isn’t either stainless steel or black or both.  And it’s mighty close to that awful 1970’s Autumn Gold.  You remember that color?  Along with Avocado Green?  Yeah, I know you do.  Anyway it’s old, filthy dirty and doesn’t seem to do much to remove smoke from the air.  In other words, it doesn’t do its job.

Toys, being the incredible person she is, did her homework in advance.  We found the one we wanted.  We paid for it, and an impressive amout of paper came out of the register.  Part of that was the very nice $5.00 off coupon for the lawn and garden department.  Which happened to be our very next stop.  Woohoo!

The next thing we needed was a cultivator attachment for the propane weed-whacker that I got last year.  For the garden, you know.  It might save me some work.  I hope.

So there we are looking for the thing we need.  And not finding it.  Suddenly, a helpful young man came up and found exactly what we were looking for.  Marked down.  On clearance.  For almost half the price.  Sweet!  We paid for the last one, using the coupon we had gotten ten minutes earlier.  That took care of the tax.  Nice.

For some reason Sear’s decided that the range hood needed to be picked up, as if it was a heavy, bulky item.  Whatever.  The whole process is automated.  It was kind of cool.  We had a brief chat with a nice man who was waiting for something and went on our merry way.

Since we had way more money on the card left than we had planned on, we headed straight for Bed, Bath & Beyond.  A seriously evil store.

We have a bunch of knives in our kitchen.  A lot of them don’t match.  Which means that they don’t fit in our knife block.  So, we got one of these.  Most of our go-to knives fit in it, freeing up the knife drawer.  And making the knife drawer a little bit safer, a very important thing.

So, we had a reasonably fun afternoon, got the stuff we needed and Toys still has about sixty dollars to spend on herself.  And saved a bundle.  We rock!

Bed, Bath and Beyond truly evil store.

Damn straight, and when you enter, you walk right into all the kitchen gadgets. That place makes me feel like a kid with $20 in a candy store.

You mean, back when $20.00 was actually worth something?
